PSP gets a Euro price cut, down 24 percent to €129.99

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has cut the price of the PlayStation Portable today. The new price for the PSP in Europe is €129.99 ($187). This 24 percent price drop. In February, Sony cut the price of the PSP in the U.S. to $129.99, down from the previous price of $169.99 for the core system. The handheld, which has sold 67.8 million units worldwide as of December 2010, was $249.99 in the U.S. when it launched in 2005.

The slashing of the price by the company seems to have been done with the objective to increase the adoption of the player in Europe. The company competes with Microsoft Corp, maker of the immensely popular Xbox, and Nintendo Co in the gaming market. Sony also said that — beginning on April 14th — PSP owners will be able to access an unlimited cloud-based music service called Music Unlimited. Powered by Qriocity, Music Unlimited will allow PSP owners to listen to customized music channels or sync up with tunes stored on their PlayStation 3, PC, or other Sony devices.
