Sony introduces PlayStation-brand 3D monitor and 3D glasses

Sony has just introduced a brand new 24-inch 3D HD display designed by them specifically for gaming. The 24-inch Playstation 3D Monitor bundled will be priced at $499 and additional pairs of glasses are $70. Best of all, the screen includes some clever technology which allows two players looking at the display at two different angles to see separate images, effectively eschewing traditional split-screen multiplayer. The screen features a 24-inch diagonal and supports both 1080p visuals and several 3D formats. The 3DTV has 2 x HDMI inputs, a 5000:1 contrast ratio and a 176-degree viewing angle. It also features edge-LED lighting and measures just 35mm at its thickest part.

Toshiba Europe unleashes a new range of smart and personal LED-TVs, namely Toshiba UL863 series. These Toshiba UL863 series are the world’s first LED TV that identify up to four different users using facial recognition and may well choose your personal settings automatically. The face-recognition application fed by the embedded camera and automatically selects a personal preset chosen by each user before. Presets include custom settings for image, list of channels and volume. The new UL863 range features TVs with screen sizes of 81cm (32”), 94cm (37”), 107cm (42’’) and 117cm (46”). Amazingly, it also give access to Toshiba Places, Toshiba’s content and service platform.

Nissho Electronics has just launched its 52-inch Full HD Dimenco Display Glasses-Free 3D TV for Japan market. This Dimenco Displays Glasses-Free 3D TV is coded BDL5231-3D2R. The specifications underline the high precision detail and response times for which the displays may be more than just entertainment devices. The TV boasts of a LCD panel with full HD resolution with 60Hz refresh rate, 2,000:1 contrast ratio, 700cd/m2 brightness, and a 8ms response time. Its screen has the ability to convert 2D content to 3D in real time. The stereoscopic video coding 3D format used is called 2D-plus-Depth, or 2D+Z.

Sharp and NHK Successfully Develop with Super Hi-Vision, a World First

Japan Broadcasting Corp (NHK) and Sharp Corp announced that they have developed an 85-inch LCD display compatible with Super High-Vision (SHV), or a pixel count of about 33 million (7,680 x 4,320). This is a world first for a direct-view display. NHK began R&D into Super Hi-Vision, which has dramatically higher resolution than current HDTVs, in 1995 and aims to begin trial broadcasts in 2020. Sharp claims the 85-inch LCD TV will offers super-high-quality images, incredible detail on images and offers virtual-reality sense to its viewers. The display resolution reaching 7,680 x 4,320 pixels or approximately 16 times the resolution of standard HDTVs at 1080p.

Sony: E-Papers And Bare Eyes 3D Display

Sony Corp developed 24- and 10-inch 3D LCD displays that can be viewed with the naked eye and announced their details at the SID this week Los Angels. Though Sony exhibited naked-eye 3D LCD displays at International CES 2011, the latest prototypes use a new 3D display method, which is different from the method used for previous prototypes, the company said. This particular method uses a backlight positioned between an LCD panel and another backlight for 2D images, and can be easily be switched off for 2D viewing. The New Sony new e-papers weigh only 20 grams or less by using a plastic substrate and measures a mere 150-microns thick while The sheet boasts a 13-percent color gamut, 10:1 contrast ratio, and 150dpi resolution.
