Dell has announced that the Latitude XT3, a convertible tablet PC, is now available. Rather than create a tablet with a laptop dock that is sold separately like the Asus Transformer, Dell’s XT3 is a full-sized laptop with out-of-box tablet functionality. Dell Latitude XT3 will have a rotating 13.3-inch display, 1366×768 pixel multi-touch display, and will be powered by either Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processor with integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics chipset and HD webcam. Other specs include: Windows 7 operating system, up to 8GB of RAM, 250/320GB HDD or 256GB SSD, optional optical drive, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, optional mobile broadband support (including WiMAX), GPS, optional Bluetooth 3.0, RJ-45,3x USB 2.0 (1x USB/eSATA combo), VGA, and HDMI output. It also comes with a DVD drive (available via XT3 Media Base or E-Modular Bay II), a memory card reader, 34 mm ExpressCard slot, SmartCard Reader, while a fingerprint reader is optional. Slick is getting ready to launch a new eBook Reader called the ER-701. It showed up at the FCC website this week. The ER-701 will have a 7″ screen (same as the current Slick), and it also has a microSD card slot and an unknown amount of Flash storage. It’s tied to the Kobo ebookstore, and since it has Wifi there’s a good chance that you will be able to hack the browser and go elsewhere. The Slick ER-701 eReader isn’t going to offer the super-long battery life that you get from a model with an E Ink display, and it will be harder to read in direct sunlight. The device appears to have a 2100mAh, 7.77 Whr battery.

Vietnamese tech site Sohoa has leaked images of the Acer Apire 3951. The Acer Apire 3951 features an aluminum casing and an ultra thin design. The aluminum-cased 13.3-inch notebook measures an uber slim 13mm thick and is reportedly on around 3 pounds heavy. Much like the Air, this Aspire can purportedly boot up pretty fast, as well, rousing from sleep mode in just 1.7 seconds. Sohoa is claiming the 3951 will be packing a second generation Intel Core i5, i7 CPU, 160 SSD, Bluetooth 4.0 support. and a respectable 6 hour battery life. Availability looks set for October when the Aspire 3951 will arrive for between $770-$960 depending on the processor and SSD configuration

Irvine-based consumer electronics company Vizio has just launched in the US its 8-inch Android. The 8 inch VIZIO V-Tab is now on sale for $300 at both Walmart and Amazon. Reportedly, this device is suitable for use to enjoy movies, the web, TV shows, music, and even act as universal control home theater devices (built-in IR). Vizio’s device makes use of the V.I.A. Plus interface, and features an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage (2GB are available). The tablet also packs a VGA front-facing camera, Bluetooth, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, an ambient Light Sensor, HDMI port, and an accelerometer.

India-based Bharat Electronics Limited has announced the development of a $75 solar-powered tablet. BEL’s tablet runs Android 2.2 and is solar powered for the power back up. The tablet will send the data back to the central server relying on the solar powered battery. The amazing thing about this tablet is, it was designed, manufactured and 2000 sample tablets were shipped in just 4.5 months. This tablet is used to aid the survey of people below the poverty line. BEL is mainly a defence supplier for equipments like radars, detection and communication devices. As of now, the Indian Solar Tablet remains unnamed. Reports have also stated that a different version of the tablet will be supplied to students. These tablets will be facilitated by the Ministry of HRD. No word has been stated if the tablet will be available for market retail.

This notebook is enabled with an 18.4″ 16:9 Full HD LED Backlight Display that resembles 1920 x 1080 pixels of display resolution.
