Sony in Japan are getting ready to launch the Sony Vaio X series ultraportable.  The Vaio X will be a thin and light notebook that won’t be more than 0.55″ thin, weighs just 1.5 pounds thanks to a crazy light carbon fiber chassis. The notebook, announced at the beginning of September, is only listed as “coming soon”.  Sony have confirmed in the past that the ultraportable will cost no more than $2,000 but the official price is still unknown. To prepare for the launch, Sony have launched a pre-registration site that allows you to register.

In its current incarnation, the VAIO X-series packs an Intel Atom processor with an 11.1-inch display and a battery Sony claim is sufficient for a full day’s use.  As we saw the model earlier, it has 2GB and was running Windows 7. Probably,  the pre-registration is getting ready for the launch of Windows 7 next month. The ultraportable Vaio X also has USB 2.0 ports, VGA, ethernet and a memory card reader.
