Sony to Show 360-Degree Autostereoscopic 3D Display at Siggraph.

Posted by | Last Updated : 671 days ago

Sony is showing off the next generation of 3-dimensional screens, providing 360-degree volumetric images. Some sites are calling it a holographic display which it can even recognize gestures, allowing you to manipulate the object displayed on screen. Sony plans to showcase a 360° autostereoscopic 3D display at Siggraph conference in late July, 2010

The device, which is, for the time being, just in prototype stage, uses LED display solutions and can show no less than 360 different images in all directions, at 1 degree intervals. The fact that these images are actually separated, even by such a tiny interval, helps the device create the 3D image within the viewer’s brain, much like shutter glasses do nowadays

The 360° display has a digital-video input port for connection to computers or other devices. When video data is supplied to the display, moving volumetric objects appear inside the cylinder. When 360° CG movies are generated by a graphic processor in real time and supplied to the display, the user can move and interact with the volumetric object.
