3M has showcased their new multitouch LCD display during this week’s CES called the 3M Display M2256PW.The 3M Multi-touch Developer Kit was first introduced in June 2009 at the SID Display Week. It was the first multi-touch hardware platform made available to software developers that was able to provide the possibility for true multi-touch and multi-user interactivity.
The 3M Display M2256PW gets a high-definition 1680 x 1050 LCD screen, DVI and VGA video input, audio input, a durable, anti-glare surface and is compatible with Windows 7 so no third party drivers are required
Applications taking advantage of this high level of interactivity include computer aided design, digital signage, computer gaming, security monitoring systems, education and training, and teleconferencing. For Linux and Windows XP/Vista/7 operating systems, 3M plans to offer a multi-touch driver and software utility, and will offer communication protocol documents for customers who wish to develop their own drivers. Unfortunately, there’s no word on pricing and release date yet.
