LG Electronics said Tuesday that it will introduce a new line-up of mobile DVD players and cell phones with digital TV features in January, hoping to grab a head start in the U.S. mobile TV market.
LG will be providing chips capable of supporting mobile TV standards in America to Dell, Kenwood and others for devices ranging from computers to car stereos. LG is currently the world’s second-largest TV maker trailing behind its local rival Samsung Electronics. The company plans to ramp up its TV business next year, introducing borderless flat-panel and three-dimensional TVs to the global market. LG’s also promising more ATSC Mobile DTV devices from Dell (laptops), Kenwood, and others including in-car receivers all using LG’s LG2160A ATSC-M/H tuner chip.
