NorhTec has shown up its Edubook being powered by AA batteries. Named as Gecko EduBook, it is claimed to be able to last for four hours with eight units of AA size NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries It sports an 8.9” display panel with 1024 x 600 pixels resolution and can run both Windows and Linux. It is fanless and uses ridiculously less power – only 6.5 Watts of power. The construction is very modular. You can change the CPU if you want to. This is a netbook for the OEMs and an individual unit will cost $199.95. If you order 10000 units, each unit will cost $145 and for an order of 100,000 units, each unit will cost a mere $99.95.
