The NXCAM is Sony’s first professional camcorder line to record video to Memory Stick PRO Duo memory cards and the first to offer AVCHD recording.
The NXCAM will utilize Sony’s “G Lens” with a 20x optical zoom and it will include three 1/3-inch CMOS Sensors. As far as specs and features go, the NXCAM is essentially the same camcorder as Sony’s HVR-Z5U—except in place of the tape deck are two Memory Stick card slots
In HD mode, Sony’s NXCAM records H.264 in AVCHD format at a maximum bitrate of 24 megabits per second in best mode. NXCAM offers full-raster 720p and full-raster 1080i/p (in addition to subsampled 1080 formats, and SD formats encoded with MPEG2). The newly developed 1/3-inch type Exmor CMOS Sensor system with ClearVid array has 45-degree rotated pixels on each chip in order to increase the signal density, while each pixel maintains sufficient surface area. Exmor features the column-parallel A/D conversion technique and the dual noise cancelling method also used in the Sony’s top-of-the-line models.

The new NXCAM professional camcorder will be available in early 2010, with suggested list pricing to be announced in early January.
