Litl Webbook gets official: “cloud” netbook for $699

Litl has today debuted the Webbook, an Atom netbook that runs a web-connected and cloud-using operating system.Basically, the Webbook is a netbook with a 12” monitor that can slide around like an easel. Litl says this feature makes their Webbook perfect for enjoying movies, displaying photos, or browsing through social networking, websites and web TV

The system features an 1.6GHz Atom processor, paired with 1GB of RAM, 2GB of flash storage and a GPU acceleration for H.264 video. Unlike other Atom-based devices that have recently been launched, this system comes with a home-grown, always-on OS. Additional features of the new device include a 12-inch display, a WiFi b/g wireless support, a headphone port, a USB 2.0 and HDMI connectivity.

Litl’s machine is said to make it easy to connect and stay in touch with friends and family and provides Flickr, Shutterfly and Facebook channels for photo sharing/viewing, a Weather Channel app that displays local weather conditions and 5-day forecasts, and is maintenance free as all updates are delivered automatically, without bothering the user. The Litl Webbook does cost more than your typical netbook though at $699 available to order online from today, the optional remote control is $19.
