ooma Telo just around the corner, to launch October 2009

Back in January, at CES, a little company called Ooma unveiled its next-generation phone system, the Telo.  The VoIP provider is taking a different path with the Telo system: the phone calls are free. Here’s how this works: buy the ooma Telo and connect it to your home network. Attach a phone handset to the Telo and you can make free phone calls forever (with some limitations).

Ooma will try to upsell you into getting Ooma premier, which gives you these features:
*Instant Second Line, to eliminate the problems of phone hogs in your life;
*Multi-Ring lets you forward your calls to your cell phone or any other phone you choose;
*Three-way Conferencing lets you easily add a third person to your calls;
*Advanced Voicemail features, including Do Not Disturb, Voicemail Screening, and Voicemail Forwarding;
*Privacy and Personalization Options and much more.

The Ooma Telo is now shipping, priced at $250. The Optional Ooma Premier costs $10 per month. Those who sign up for one year of the service, get the option of receiving a free Ooma Telo Handset or number porting, respectively priced at $50 and $40 by themselves.
